Al-Arafah Islami Bank PLC. Core Responsibilities

🔹 Strategic Leadership & Governance

  • Lead the Bank in alignment with its mission, vision, and Shariah principles.
  • Ensure sound governance practices, transparency, and compliance with all regulatory frameworks.
  • Provide strategic advice and recommendations to the Board of Directors, including emerging trends, policy reforms, and laws relevant to the banking industry.
  • Establish succession planning and ensure a strong leadership pipeline across all levels.

🔹 Operational Oversight

  • Supervise day-to-day banking operations, ensuring efficiency, productivity, and strong internal controls.
  • Review financial statements and remain updated with all policy and regulatory changes as approved by the Board.
  • Oversee business operations, investments, foreign trade, treasury, and digital transformation initiatives to ensure sustainable growth aligned with overall strategy and mission of the bank in a centralized operation.

🔹 Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with Bangladesh Bank regulations, BRPD circulars, and Shariah governance guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate, timely reporting and disclosures to regulators, shareholders, and stakeholders.
  • Prevent involvement in any illegal, unethical, or non-Shariah compliant activities.

🔹 Human Resource & Organizational Development

  • Foster a culture of integrity, professionalism, diversity, and innovation aligned with performance-oriented growth objectives.
  • Guide senior management and ensure effective talent development.
  • Build an inclusive workplace aligned with Islamic values and best HR practices.

🔹 Financial Integrity & Risk Management

  • Safeguard depositor interests and maintain financial stability.
  • Oversee credit risk, asset quality, recovery, investment decisions, liquidity, and capital adequacy.
  • Ensure robust internal control, internal audit, compliance monitoring, IT and cybersecurity risk management.

🔹 Stakeholder & External Relations

  • Maintain effective communication with shareholders, regulators, auditors, analysts, and rating agencies.
  • Promote corporate social responsibility (CSR), green banking, and sustainable finance in alignment with Bangladesh Bank directives.

Job Requirements

  • Postgraduation or Master’s degree preferably in Economics, Finance, or Business Administration from a recognized UGC approved university is mandatory. CFA, CMA, CPA, ACCA or MBA in Finance/Accounting/Banking/Management or relevant professional certifications will be an added advantage. No third class is acceptable in any academic result.
  • Minimum 20 years of banking experience with a mix of minimum 10 years’ experience in business & risk, including at least 2 years of experience in a senior executive role below MD/CEO level and having in-depth knowledge in Islamic Shariah based Banking.
  • Must comply with all the requirements of being an MD & CEO as per BRPD Circular No: 5, dated 27 February 2024; BRPD Circular No: 12, dated 03 March 2024. and all subsequent circulars issued by BB.
  • Age: Minimum 45 years and Maximum 60 years at the time of application.
  • Tenure: Minimum 3 years. Final appointment is subject to approval by Bangladesh Bank, following an AIB Board’s interview process.

Additional Requirements

  • The candidate must not have been involved in any financial irregularities, legal convictions or regulatory violations, conflict of interest with the bank or its stakeholders.
  • Must meet the “fit and proper” standards set by Bangladesh Bank, which include professional integrity, sound judgment, proven leadership capabilities and clean financial and legal record.
  • Proven track record in managing corporate governance, investment risk, recovery, digital transformation and financial performance.
  • No record of loan default, financial irregularities, or regulatory violations and with strong leadership, communication, and strategic planning skills committed to Islamic banking values and ethical standards.
