As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, Al-Arafah Islami Bank PLC has launched a month-long tree plantation program at leading universities in the country. The program was recently inaugurated at the  University of Chittagong premises with the slogan “Let’s Beautify the Country Through Tree Plantation; Bangladesh Comes First.”

Organized under the overall supervision of the Institute of Forestry and Environmental Sciences, University of Chittagong, the program included the plantation of 1,000 saplings of various species. The inaugural ceremony was graced by the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Dr. Mohammad Al-Forkan, as the Chief Guest.

Deputy Managing Director of the Bank S. M. Abu Jafar, University’s Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr. Mohammad Al-Amin and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Md. Shafiqul Islam were present as special guests at the program. The program was presided over by Professor Dr. Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain, Director of the Institute of Forestry and Environmental Science.

Executive Vice President and Chittagong Central Regional Head and Agrabad Branch Manager Mohammad Salamat Ullah, Senior Assistant Vice President and Chawkbazar Branch Manager Mohammad Arifur Rahman, Assistant Vice President and Halishahar Branch Manager Mohammad Forkan and other senior officials of the bank were present. In addition, deans of various faculties of the university, teachers, students and concerned persons participated in the program.

The speakers highlighted the importance of extensive tree plantation for environmental conservation, mitigating the adverse impacts of climate change, and achieving sustainable development.

As part of its continued commitment to environmental sustainability and climate resilience, Al-Arafah Islami Bank PLC has undertaken tree plantation programs this year at eight leading universities, including the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and the University of Dhaka, as well as at two branches of the Bank. Under this initiative, forest, fruit-bearing, and medicinal tree saplings will be planted and properly maintained to ensure their healthy growth.
